Description

So I recently suffered a relapse into the days when I was obsessed with Transformers Prime. I seriously loved that series, from the story and characters to the sweet animation. One of the awesome things of this series, at least for me, was that the creators made a really noticeable and meaningful set of human characters, who had realistic and strong bonds with the Autobot characters and who's actions could, and often did, have serious effects in the storyline.

So I indulged in my favourite past time, slapping wings on to characters that never had, nor ever will, have wings. Because I'm always a slut for wings.

So a brief rundown on my thought processes behind each one and what species of bird wings I gave them, because overthinking things is apparently my specialty:P

Miko Nakadai: Delichon (House Martin) wings
Starting with my favourite human in the series... Miko gets sharp, short delichon wings for fast and agile maneuvers, her stamina isn't fantastic but mobility isn't a problem. Often her flight pattern can appear a bit sporadic, with her generally excitable personality not aiding this in the least and she often appears to flit all over the place. Her diving speed can reach reasonably high speeds (fastest in the trio when diving). The plumage on the uppersides of her wings, mainly in the marginal coverts is an iridescent blue-black and often glints a bright blue in the sunlight. The majority of her wingspan is made up of her primary feathers which gives her wings their sharp shape. Miko is becoming adept at landing on Bulkhead or Wheeljack (or pretty much any Cybertronian she is moderately sure won't slap her off on instinct) while they're moving. Her motives for this are known only by her but her guardian, and sort-of-other-guardian???, don't seem to mind. Having wings that are derived from such a tiny, little species of bird means it's super easy to pass her off as a delicate weakling. Don't.

Rafael Esquivel: Mourning Dove wings
Raf gets cute, fluffy dove wings for being cute, but they also have the potential to grow a lot stronger as he ages. Raf is the only one in the trio who can't fly yet, the reason for this being that he hasn't finished fledging yet. (In this AU, Earth is inhabited by humans and winged humans, an extremely closely related and completely integrated race in modern society that have been on Earth as long as humans. It is quite normal for winged children to not be flight worthy until puberty, and to be capable of flight anywhere between the ages of 13-16.) Raf still has quite a lot of down on his wings that is still shedding as his adult feathers grow in (a fact that Ratchet loathes as he is always finding down strewn all across the base.) Raf has the shortest wingspan but it is likely that this will grow as he ages.

Jack Darby: Grey Heron wings (was horribly tempted to give Jackdaw wings but no such cliches)
Unarguably the largest wingspan of the three, big, lanky teen gets long, clumsy heron wings because I'm super over the trope of depicting Jack as a ridiculously mature guy that never makes mistakes. I mean yeah, he has some really great moments in the series, but the guy is literally a 16 year old kid! Anywho, Jack's still growing into his wings, meaning he has quite a lot of incidents where he accidentally whacks things off of benches and tables. Or simply whacks other people. His wingspan is so overly large for his thin body that he can have a hard time folding them in and it can take a bit of fiddling the limbs around until they sit comfortably, much to his embarrassment. He bought a special wing harness that comfortably presses the wings closer to the body so he can comfortably ride with Arcee without the looming risk of having his wings flung open by the slipstream and possibly damaged (that first hectic chase was hell on his wings and he had cramps for hours after from pinning his wings to his sides.) He'll grow into his wings eventually. Jack has one leucistic feather on his left wing (it lacks pigment so it comes out white) and it is highly probable that he will get more in his life.

Whelp, that's all for now. I really like this idea, and hey, if anyone seeing this likes this AU, feel free to send me questions to the characters or whatever and I'll answer 'em, with sketches if I get time:D
(kinda tossing up whether I should make a little ask blog on Tumblr for this AU, but I already have so much to do with my original stories;_; But it sounds so fun!)

I love the texture on the primary feathers and the patterns on the secondaries, plus your proportions are great!!!
